Chariots of the Gods…
In addition to the temple dancers, the devotees get in on the action…
After which Lord Jagannath, His sister Subhadra, and His brother Balabhadra, are carried to their chariots and strapped in (I’ve been telling you people for years: Seat Belts Save Lives!) for the procession.
(The stories don’t tell us what form the Gods took at this time, so the idols which represent them are made of wood without strongly defined features… painted eyes, no hands, no legs, no necks.)
Balabhadra is white, with almond-shaped eyes.
Subhadra is traditionally yellow.
and Lord Jagannath is black, with big round eyes.
