Happy Holidays
Just across the dog run is the proprietor’s quarters, along with his office, which doubles as the Fanthorp Inn post office. This was the first post office in the area, before either Grimes County or the city of Anderson was organized. Since 1835, mail is delivered here every week, until Grimes County gets organized in 1846, with Anderson as the county seat. Of course there’s no door-to-door mail delivery; you pick up your mail here at the Inn. (To the right of the desk, there’s a mail window onto the porch.)
